For common wall sound bleed, the soundproofing treatment should target the collapse of the transmitting sound wave. A standard studded wall will connect rooms together by the frame. The frame becomes the equal to a string pulled tight between two coffee cans. As sound is produced in one room, the energy transer is structural, traveling by vibration through the studs to the adjoining room. The goal with protecting one room's noise from the next should target the disconnection of the wall, and then lining the assembly with additional weight. Density impedes resonance, much like grabbing a tuning fork by the prongs to force the collapse of the vibration, the sound dies with it. By adding weight to a wall surface, you trigger the same basic effect. The combination of adding density to your common wall, and disconnecting it to force the collapse of the wave, can produce up to 90% elimination of noise bleeding straight through the wall.
With digital technology we are now dealing with not a photocopier but a printer and scanner. The scanner part of the photocopier is very reliable and the only weakness comes from the printing and feeding of originals. With printers customers have come to expect reliability and customer changeable units. Digital Photocopiers will follow the same way. Recyclable units will replace the need for a service contract on the photocopier and copiers like printers will come with a warranty and the main parts will be changeable by the customer themselves. This has already been achieved in printers and the photocopier industry will eventually follow.
